“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”
Proverbs 18:21 ESV

For the past several weeks I’ve been battling my depression daily. To be exact, minute by minute. I was constantly telling myself how much I hated my life. All I thought about was how difficult my life was and how progressively it would get harder as I aged. I was reading God’s word everyday, asking for a miracle but in the same breath cursing my life and speaking death into my being. That’s what depression and Satan does to you. Satan keeps feeding me lies about my life, feeding me insecurities about my unknown future, feeding me doubts and fear.
I realize I can’t expect God’s miracle if I give in to doubt. I need faith, even if it’s as small as a mustard seed.
“And the Lord said, “If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.”
Luke 17:6 ESV
The very same day I tell my rehab counselor that I’m asking God for healing, I also tell her how much I don’t want to live my life like this and I’d rather be dead. During lunch that same day, I open up my Bible app to read my daily devotional and this spoke out and convicted my heart. I share this with you to show you how powerful words are and if you are going through life saying hurtful things to yourself, you need to STOP and feed some positive words in your life. I know depression makes you see life in a different lens but that’s Satan’s trick and we cannot fall for that trap.

Devotional Day 4: Confess Your Miracle
Say the same thing about your miracle that God is saying to you through your heart and through His Word. Proverbs tells us that “death and life are in the power of the tongue.”
Personally, I believe the tongue is the most powerful force in the world. Words are never neutral. My mouth is a monitor that can help me know the true condition of my heart at any given time. One of the most effective things I can do, therefore, to modify my thoughts about something is to purposely change my speech about it and start speaking positive words about that situation even before I start “feeling” the sentiments. With the right words spoken at the right time and in the right way, I can actually change myself, change others, and change my circumstances. Self-talk, the words you say to yourself when nobody else is around, is far more important and carries far more weight than any words that any other person could ever say to you.
Your words will impact the miracle that you are requesting from God, because your words will reflect your attitude toward that miracle and toward God’s ability to provide it. Your words also will have a direct bearing on the actions you take or refuse to take to make your miracle a reality.
When we “confess” our miracle, we are not saying something that is untrue and we are not creating something out of nothing. We are “admitting with” God what He has already said about our miracle. “Say the same thing” about your miracle that God is saying about it. Confess your miracle every day until it arrives, saying the same things silently to yourself and out loud to other people that God is saying about your miracle to you.
